Project Description

Al Khaleej Sugar - literally meaning "the Gulf Sugar" - is the world`s largest standalone sugar refinery. It is located in Dubai`s Jebel Ali free Zone. Al Khallej Sugar decided to extedn its storage facilities by building three additional silos. It elected to use an alternative approach, with the roofs being preassembled at ground level inside the silos and then lifted to the top.

The three roofs are shaped like a dome and each consists of a steel space frame together with cladding, which was also installed while the structure was at ground level. Each 180t roof was lifted by 16 SLU-30 strand jacks, which wer equally spaced on top of the 70m-high wall.
