Project Description

ITER is a large-scale scientific experiment intended to prove the viability of fusion as an energy source. China, the European Community, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and the United States are members of the Organization.

Cadarache in Southern France has been selected as location for the giant project. One of the central elements of ITER is the huge Assembly Hall Building with a height of 60m. The steel roof was compounded on ground and then raised into its final position. VSL Heavy Lifting was awarded the roof lift and worked hand in hand with the teams of F4E, ITER, IH, the VFR consortium and its client Martifer.

Within 36 hours the roof, measuring 60x100m, was raised step by step on 22 lifting point. By reaching the final position at a heigth of 60m, another important milestone for ITER was finalized successfully.
